Chicken Wings & Bollywood Nights

As I get older, I find I’m less apologetic about things I enjoy. Which is why, now, I don’t think twice about inviting myself to a friends place to watch the filmfare awards. I know, I know. They’re lame, awarded illogically, and the MC’s are guaranteed to be unfunny. But still, I cant not watch it.

In the spirit of generosity, and to make up for forcing our company (and the chore of cooking dinner) on our friends , AD decided he had to contribute to the meal. I know right? The man who wont eat manages to cook pretty decently when he puts his mind to it. I was, of course, the one who had to hand him everything he could think of. It was the chef’s version of ‘Nurse! Forceps!” AD doesnt bother cooking anything that’s not meat and not fancy. Its like regular food should be left to the plebs (or the wife). So he made chicken wings which comprised AD’s signature ingredient , anything-within-arms-reach. There was a method to the madness, for sure. The theme was Asian (because our hosts were making Asian food for dinner). So in the wise words of Gary & George (the last word on any food according to AD) it had to have sweet, sour, salt, spicy & something else I cant remember.

It was a fun night. Everything was so ridiculous starting with Shah Rukh Khan & Ranbeer Kapoor hosting the show. Exactly who told them that they were hilarious dressed in drag? RK even accepted an award dressed like Vidya Balan in ‘Oohh La La’. They should have revoked his award based solely on that. Not cool, Dude. Shah Rukh has lost the plot in Megalomania-land. Kareena & Karisma Kapoor looked bored out of their wits.Farhan Akhtar tried really hard to look modest as his movie won yet another award. Abhishek Bachchan was there solo looking a little lost without his personal cheer leading entourage. He should have stayed home with his baby which is clearly where the rest of his family was – he had nothing to say or do at the event in any case.

AD’s chicken wings had more masala to it.

Here’s what you need

500 gm chicken wings

1tsp chinese 5 spice

2 tbsp soy sauce

1 tsp red chilli powder

1tbsp green/red chilli sauce

2 tbsp vinegar

1tbp sesame oil

salt & pepper

1/4 cup coke

1. Mix all ingredients together and leave chicken to marinate for at least 1/2 hour

2. Heat a pan and put in chicken along with entire mariande

3. Cook on slow heat till the coke caramelises to a thick sauce & chicken cooks completely
